Breakfast on the Beach
Text:
John 21:1–19

I. The Emptiness of Life Without Jesus (vv. 1–6)

  • The disciples returned to what was familiar—fishing—but caught nothing.
  • Their efforts, though skilled, were fruitless without divine direction.
  • Jesus calls from the shore and redirects them: “Cast your nets on the right side.”
  • Motion without mission leads to exhaustion.
  • Obedience unlocks abundance.

II. Recognition Reignites Devotion (vv. 7–8)

  • John recognizes Jesus: “It is the Lord!”
  • Peter responds with reckless love—he dives in without hesitation.
  • Stop waiting to get it all together. Run to Jesus.
  • He meets us not with shame—but with breakfast.

III. Grace Served Where Guilt Once Sat (vv. 9–14)
  • The charcoal fire (anthrakia) mirrors the one where Peter denied Jesus.
  • Jesus redeems the memory, the setting, the pain.
  • Jesus meets us in our lowest moments and turns ashes into grace.

IV. Love Reaffirms the Call (vv. 15–17)
  • Jesus asks Peter three times: “Do you love Me?” — a mirror to his three denials.
  • Greek nuances reveal a deep personal restoration: agapao → phileo.
  • Jesus meets Peter at his level and reaffirms his calling: “Feed My sheep.”
  • Your love, not perfection, is the foundation of your calling.

V. A Call Worth Dying For (vv. 18–19)
  • Jesus prophesies Peter’s future: a cross of his own.
  • Peter moves from denial to devotion, from comfort to commission.
  • Jesus doesn’t just forgive you—He entrusts you.

Cocnlusion:

Jesus meets us where we are—but He never leaves us there.
He says, “Do you love Me?”
 If yes… then:
 “Feed My sheep.”
 “Take up your cross.”
 “Follow Me.”
