The Road to Emmaus: Recognizing the Risen Jesus

Text: Luke 24:13–35

~

Key Question: How can we open our eyes to see Jesus in our everyday journeys?

~

Do We Recognize Jesus?
(Luke 24:13–16)

  • Jesus walked with the disciples even when they were confused and grieving.
  • Sometimes we miss Jesus because we are focused on our pain or expectations.
  • Jesus is present in the everyday, in the people around us, and in the ordinary moments we often overlook.

Key Application: Ask Jesus to open your eyes to see Him walking beside you.

Jesus Reveals Himself as the Word
(Luke 24:25–27)

  • Jesus shows that all of the Law and Prophets point to Him.
  • The Scriptures are not just information; they are an encounter with the Living Word.
  • Their hearts burned because the Word of God revealed the heart of God.

Key Application: Open your Bible expecting to encounter the living Christ.

~

Communion: The Key to Revelation
(Luke 24:30–31, 35)
  • Jesus was made known in the breaking of the bread.
  • Communion is both communication and union with Christ.
  • Invitation leads to revelation; relationship leads to transformation.

Key Application: Invite Jesus to commune with you daily—through worship, Scripture, prayer, and fellowship.

~

Final Thoughts:
  • Jesus still walks with us today.
  • He speaks through His Word.
  • He reveals Himself in fellowship and communion.

    • “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?”
      (Luke 24:32, ESV)

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where might Jesus be walking with me right now that I haven't recognized?
  2. How can I open the Scriptures this week to seek His voice?
  3. What does it look like for me to invite Jesus into closer communion today?
